our planet

The Starving Artist is passionate about using art as a catalyst for tangible change in our environment, climate adaptation, and climate anxiety. Our mission is to empower people-centered solutions to address environmental reform, platforming those from marginalized perspectives through creative arts.

We merge art, activism, and sustainability to cultivate a more conscious world. Through our innovative art interventions, we aim to raise awareness about environmental degradation, climate change, and social injustice, while embracing eco-friendly and sustainable practices in our creative endeavors.

The Starving Artist is dedicated to making sustainability and art activism accessible to everyone. We offer a diverse range of services and activities, including workshops, art residencies, and online resources. We believe in the profound impact that art can have on fostering positive change.

We are strongly dedicated to combating climate change, with a specific focus on Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. We firmly believe that art possesses the power to raise awareness about climate change and motivate individuals to take significant action. Through our art interventions, we aim to educate people about the root causes of climate change and empower them to join forces in building a sustainable future.

At The Starving Artist, we hold a strong belief in the transformative power of art to drive social change. Our art interventions are characterized by their unique and creative approach, inspiring and igniting conversations that lead to positive and long-lasting solutions. We recognize the significant role art plays in shaping a sustainable and equitable future.

Our diverse range of art interventions includes organized exhibitions and public billboard campaigns. These initiatives effectively showcase the impact of climate change and environmental degradation, captivating the public's attention and fostering dialogue. Notable examples of our campaigns include the Journeys Festival's 'Look Up' campaign, the Great Big Green Week Exhibition 'A Fragile Planet,' and many more impactful projects.

Our team at The Starving Artist is dedicated to educating and empowering individuals to take meaningful action against climate change. We achieve this through a range of workshops, events, and art lessons. We strongly believe in the power of art education and actively engage with schools, local communities, and organizations.

Our focus has been platforming sustainable art-based practices such as material usage, sustainable period products with Her Period Dignity, and ethical consumption.

Recently, we conducted art and climate activism workshops in collaboration with ONE International, Global Village, and the Mental Health Foundation. These activities foster community participation and inspire individuals to  make a difference in the face of the climate crisis.

We focus on art-based dialogue and personal experiences to shed light on the environmental impact. Through these conversations, she suggests sustainable solutions and encourages industry stakeholders to prioritize eco-friendly practices. Some recent participations include Youthwise and OECD’s 2023 panel and working with the Scottish Parliament on youth advocates in sustainable community initiatives. We are also part of SDSN Youth’s Local Pathways Fellowship and European Climate Pact focusing on reform through UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

The Starving Artist is dedicated to incorporating sustainable practices into our artistic endeavors. One of our recent projects, 'Voices Above Water,' consists of art reflection cards that provide art-making prompts and reflective questions on climate anxiety, eco-mental health, and advocacy.

In addition to our creative initiatives, The Starving Artist actively participates in international speaking engagements. Ally has delivered impactful TEDx talks and spoken at conferences like the International Youth Mental Health Conference. These engagements raise awareness about the intersection of art and climate activism, inspiring audiences to take action and contribute to a sustainable future.

The Starving Artist actively collaborates with esteemed institutions and events to amplify the message of art-based climate activism. Our work is prominently featured in notable exhibitions and events worldwide, including Historic Environment Scotland's Visions of Climate Heritage, Dandelion Festival, and Climate Coalition's Environment Week. Through these collaborations, we reach a wide audience, engage with diverse communities, and foster meaningful dialogues, all while promoting sustainable practices through the transformative power of art.

amplifying female perspectives

At The Starving Artist, we prioritize the voices and experiences of female artists in our efforts to address climate change and sustainability through a gender lens. Through art interventions, workshops, and billboard campaigns, we shed light on the unique challenges faced by women in relation to climate change. For instance, our exhibitions explore topics such as sustainable period products and eco-mental health, while our workshops empower women to become climate advocates. Notable examples of our impactful art interventions include the use of billboards to share personal stories of women affected by climate change and collaborating with female artists to challenge gender norms and foster inclusivity in the art and climate activism communities. By centering female perspectives, we inspire action and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future.

The impact of our work is far-reaching. From reducing the amount of plastic pollution in the environment, to educating people about water conservation and renewable energy sources, to increasing access to clean water and sanitation, the Initiative is making huge strides in the effort to preserve the planet for generations to come.

Our efforts have been internationally recognized, with The King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment of SDGs (2022), The Princess Diana Legacy Award (2021), recognition from The British Citizen's Award (2022), Youth 20 (by G20 Summit) Diversity & Inclusion Award (2022), and the list of NetZero Heros for Net Zero 50 (2022).

The Starving Artist Initiative continues to inspire global change by putting people, voices, and art at the forefront of our sustainability initiatives. Through our work, they are making a positive impact on our environment and ensuring a better, more eco-friendly future for us all.
