navigating LGBTQIA+ identity + the queer body experience

We begin with the exploration of queer joy, an often neglected aspect of LGBTQIA+ representation in popular media up till recently. In a world often defined by its struggles and strife, it's crucial to spotlight the vibrant spectrum of human experience.

Miller, Quinn (2023). Flowers. [Digital Photography].

Cook, Liv (2024). Cupid. [mixed media].
In the fight toward equality and liberation, queer empowerment is characterized by hope and resilience. A call to action, a declaration of pride, and a celebration of the strength and diversity within LGBTQIA+ communities worldwide. The following pieces amplify the voices of those who have dared to challenge norms, break barriers, and pave the way for a more inclusive society, with each story speaking to the power of queer empowerment to ignite transformation and inspire change. At its core, queer empowerment is about reclaiming agency, visibility, and self-determination. It is a refusal to be confined by society's expectations or limited by its prejudices. Instead, it is an affirmation of the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

gloria tang yuze

Gloria is a self-taught Singaporean artist who believes in the power of advocacy through artistic expression. Wielding a paintbrush and a catalog of not-so-cryptic symbolism, she delights in the cathartic experience of art-making, with her work serving as authentic conversations on the never-ending search for purpose, her queer experience, and mental health.

As a closeted 13-year-old, her consumption of queer art kept her hopeful amidst the turbulence of her teenage years. Now serving as a guest curator, she hopes to encourage viewers to empathize and resonate with the raw honesty radiating from each contributor’s work and to interact with different facets of the queer identity: the highs, lows, past, and present of an existence beyond boundaries—the celebration of our queer experience.
